Happy Tuesday Babes!!
I hope you all had an amazing holiday break! I feel like I took a major break over the holidays and stepped back from all of the staged blog shoots and I hate to admit it, but it was so nice to take a mini break! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love blogging and creating this space on the Internet to hopefully inspire all of you means so much to me, but like any full time job, you sometimes need a break! I have been blogging for 2 years this April full time and I put so much energy and heart into it and I truly wouldn’t be where I am without all of you, so thank you! Thank you for the constant messages, and likes and comments on Instagram, they all mean more than you know!
Ok, on to talking about the New Year and the New YOU and my reflection on 2017!!
P.S. This post is a little long so bare with me and keep reading!!
I originally wanted to have this post up yesterday, on January 1st since it’s so customary to start your New Years goals and resolutions on the 1st of the year, but this year realizing it was the first of the year was a little overwhelming for me. Since I am on social media everyday and am constantly surrounded (on the Internet) and inspired by other bloggers it’s a little hard to not compare yourself to them. Social media is equally amazing (it has provided me so many amazing opportunities) as it is scary and I would be lying to myself if I didn’t admit my inability to grow more personally because of my constant fears and comparing myself to others.
Unfortunately the saying, “Comparison is the thief of joy” couldn’t ring in more true. I have realized more than anything this past year that although I want to (and always will) support my fellow bloggers, I need to not compare myself to their successes. Everybody is in a different stage of their life and career, everybody is presented with different opportunities and everybody is living a life that none of us see behind the tiny photos that we see on Instagram. I have realized that it has been completely unfair to compare myself to others based solely on those factors. I need to break out of this shell and work harder to be a better me so that I can be a better blogger and wife and mom and daughter.
I wanted to write this because I want all of you to know that life isn’t perfect even if our photos are curated to look like we live this perfect life on Instagram. Our lives as bloggers and moms and wives are messy. They’re a “shit-show” and honestly we are all just trying to hang on. We all have our insecurities and our flaws and we also have our strengths. We are all amazing at so many things, and I personally need to appreciate those things more than being so critical of myself.
I encourage you to start 2018 fresh. Live in the moment. Love hard. Communicate more with those you love. Be present in the moment. Be truly happy. Whatever goal you start for yourself this year, whether you start a new fitness goal or a goal of being more active in your community, or being more present with your family, do it 100%. Make mistakes, but learn from them and try again. Don’t give up on your passions and dreams and be the best you that you can be.
My personal goals for 2018:
- Don’t compare myself to others. This one is a hard one for me but I know for me to be a stronger person and to grow more, I need to not compare myself to other peoples successes.
2. I plan on drinking half my body weight in water per day. I already drink quite a bit of water, but I need to drink more.
3. Although I would love to say I would like to lose “X” amount of pounds this year, instead I am going to work harder towards being more healthy and sticking to it. I plan on cutting out wheat and dairy from my diet. I already eat mostly gluten free since I have a big intolerance to wheat, but I am going to be much stricter with it this year and completely cut it out. No exceptions.
4. I want to be more present with my family. Making it a point to have more family time that is 100% committed to family time and not pulling my phone out.
Since so many of us are starting on a fitness journey this January, I rounded up my favorite activewear pieces to get you in style for the gym. Nothing makes me feel better or more motivated than working out in cute workout clothes!
